Spring FunDrive Special Programming

We’ve got two+ weeks of special, creative, surprising, and delightful programming coming up for you during our Spring Fundrive! This is when our programmers go above and beyond, try new things, bring in special guests and even add extra shows! Some might even have live music from the station! We have a little of everything and we hope you enjoy it.

Below is most of what we plan to do. It’s 83 MORE hours of locally made shows for you to enjoy. The programmers are outdoing themselves this year!

Week One: March 6-March 15

• Friday, March 6

  • 9am-11am: An extended MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR with Tonio.

  • 9am-10am: Gathering Peace with Joseph Gainza - with special guest, Llu Mulvaney-Stanak, our Director speaking to the station’s success and what’s coming next.

  • 10am-Noon: Sex Fly with Benge, featuring an interview with Brooklyn singer Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez

  • 2pm-4pm: Box Full of Blues with John Foster - TBD guest

  • 4pm-7pm: Acoustic Harmony with Mark Michaelis - - TBD guest

  • 7am-10am: Curse of the Golden Turnip with Alan, Steven, and Ethan - With special guests Tom Azarian, and at 9am CVCR Director Llu Mulvaney-Stanak to share breaking news about the station! Every gift, up to $2,750 raised during this show will be matched all drive long!

  Monday, March 9

  • 9-11am: Extended Eggs on Toast with Kelly

  • 5-7pm: Special DJ set with DJ Stefan

  • 7-8pm: In Common Sounds w/ Brother B: One World, Many Voices, Parts 1 and 2. Both will musical journeys, crossing continents, cultures, and traditions. The shows will explore rhythm and melody, language and storytelling. From the pulse of African drums to the shimmer of Asian strings, from Latin grooves to Middle Eastern fusion, each piece will offer a glimpse into the spirit of a different place.

  • 9-11pm - Deep Blues & Blues Edge w/ Les Mawson, showcasing legends of the blues for the fundrive.

  • 4pm-7pm: Sounds Of Celluloid: Just in time for Oscar Season, Barry Matthews (Country Sounds in Modern Music, Wednesdays 4-5 PM) brings you two hours of tunes from his favorite scores and soundtracks. Get lost in selections from nearly 100 years of movie magic, and give big to support Central Vermont Community Radio during our Spring FunDrive!

Week Two: March 15-22

  • 12-2pm: Special Now Playing with DJ Llu - TV soundtrack songs that really hit.

  • 2-3pm: Dennis with a special Transformation Listening!

  • 3-6pm: An Extended Edition of Listen Up! with host Bill Nowlan.

  • 7-9pm: Still Life With Club Soda we are celebrating the Spring Fundrive by playing games- both old and new. Tune in to hear old favorites like "What Are You Wearing Right Now" and "Dump it or Dust It" with special guests.Or try your hand at newly minted games like "Can You Spot the Fib In THIS Fairytale" and "Draw to Tobins Classical Music Picks If he Replies to Me and Says he will do it". And of COURSE there will be POTR. So tune in for a special Play Time edition of SLCS!!

  • 4pm-7pm: A Special Acoustic Harmony with Mark Michaelis - A surprise "guest host" will join me for the first half of the show, followed by the "all Vermonter" spotlight.

Spring Fundrive March 6-22

March 6-22, tune in for two weeks of extra great local programming. Hear special guests, live music, and lots of surprises. With your support we will raise $25K. Go community radio!

First, we have some BIG NEWS! As you know we plan to raise a new WGDR antenna on a new tower this May. This will finally add the valleys of the cities of Barre and Montpelier to our broadcast reach at 91.1 FM. For 53 years we've been barely static in these spots. Now, we will reach 20K more Vermonters - wow! The news is the FCC approved the construction permit, so it is game on for May. Now, we need to make sure the programming you love is ready to go too - and fully funded - through this spring fundrive.

To be ready to turn it up for this moment, we need your help to crush our $25K annual Spring Fundrive goal to keep our local programming rolling.

Did you know, only 10% of listeners actually give to the station?! Make this the fundrive you start giving with. It will feel great!

• The biggest impact you can have as a donor on the station is to become a sustainer. Just like your streaming services, add your beloved community radio station to the mix for as little as $5 a month. Remember if you give online, "skip the tip to Give Butter!" That doesn't come to the station.

DID YOU KNOW? ONLY 2% OF LISTENERS GIVE TO WGDR!

As of 2026, we now have over 45K listeners to the station between our broadcast and online listeners. That is a 250% increase, from the estimated 13K that listened when we were owned by Goddard. 

Our biggest growth area has been our online listeners! That’s why we invite streamers to become donors during fundrive.

As you know, we’re also about to add thousands more broadcast listeners with the new WGDR antenna in May. 

This is all great, but did you know, only 2% of all these new and long time listeners actually give to the station?! 

The public and community radio average is about 10% of listeners give. With our listener growth, we need to grow our donors next!

Breaking News: FCC Approves WGDR New Antenna Permit

How about some good news? Just before the fundrive started we were notified that the FCC approved the WGDR antenna construction permit. This means we can finally raise the new antenna at the new tower location in May! 

The new WGDR antenna is a big deal for us!

• Better coverage! The new location and stronger, new antenna will get us to the cities of Barre and Montpelier, and much further all around to places we’ve been spotty for 53 years! This truly takes us from our college station roots, to being a community broadcasting station.

• Future possibilities! Moving the WGDR antenna off the old Goddard College campus makes us more nimble for the station’s future.

• Protecting your investment! A higher, better, safer, location for the antenna protects us from impacts from future floods and the dangers of our current tower location—the forest and falling trees and the failing tower structure on campus.

Your support, during the fundrive, ensures that we have the funding we need for our programming costs right now. That way, we are ready to rock when this new antenna goes up and we welcome as many as 20K new households into our broadcast listening area in the valleys of Barre and Montpelier.

[Cassette Tape Design] My name is Athena Siegel, and I am a first-year student at UVM, studying art education in hopes of becoming an elementary school art teacher. I love everything creative, from drawing to sewing and knitting! My cat, Frankie, is my muse, and likes to help me by sitting on all my projects.

[Text Style Designs] Audrey Clare Homan is a long-time late-night Vermont DJ hiding away in the northern part of central Vermont. They've been a digital accessibility specialist, a tacoista, a grants accountant, and a veterinary school janitor, but only rarely all at the same time.

[Vermont and Tower Design] Diana Clarke is a local designer and had the winning design last year.
