On "Hot Off The Press" you can often hear
music before it's released to other stations or available in stores.
WGDR receives around 250 CD's weekly from a wide variety of record
labels and artists, sent to promote their new works. I like music I
can move to; Rock, Folk, Blues, Jazz, International, Classical, sometimes
Bluegrass or Spoken Word. You probably won't hear much Punk, Heavy
Metal, Reggae, Celtic, or Ambient but you never can tell. I air the
occasional Country, Opera, Gospel, Electronica, even Rap.
"Mainly New Music" means I may play an old favorite. Growing up I listened to; James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, Phoebe Snow, Sergio Mendez. My cousins, who lived abroad, introduced me to the music of France and Egypt. I loved listening to my brother Pat's Chubby Checker and Fats Domino albums and my parents Frank Sinatra records. These days I'm discovering music that's new to my ears. It's a treasure hunt. I uncover diamonds in the rough. When I discover a "HOT" release it's a FEATURE CD. Sometimes, I share brief information about the artists. Some weeks it's a real mix, other weeks a mood. You may really like some of the tunes, and not like others. But if you tune in I can assure you of one thing. You never know what you'll hear because - I don't either.
