Relocalizing Vermont explores how to strengthen the local economy in a time of energy constraints brought on by peak oil and other factors. To relocalize is to return to local production of food, energy, and goods. We also look at ways people are maintaining and strengthening democracy, a pre-condition of local control. Part 1 (8:30 – 9:00) consists of the Peak Oil Check-In, Bucky Buckaw’s Backyard Chicken Broadcast, and calendar announcements and/or a short interview or audio clip. Part 2 (9:00 – 10:00) generally consists of interviews with one or more guests. Musicians, mostly local, serenade us with their recordings from time to time throughout the show.
Carl Etnier has worked on sustainability issues all his life, with a 17-year career in sustainable water and wastewater. He is director of Peak Oil Awareness, an organization devoted to stimulating conversations about peak oil.

The Quiet Storm by WGDRThe year 2013 is a big year at Goddard College. The College itself is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Its radio station, WGDR, is marking its 40th anniversary. And “The Quiet Storm” is notching its 15th anniversary. Even the show’s longtime host, Skeeter Sanders, is marking a personal milestone in April: His 60th birthday.
It was during the height of the Civil War in 1863 when the College was founded. America’s involvement in the Vietnam War was coming to an end in 1973 when WGDR first went on the air. And it was just two months after the signing in 1998 of the Good Friday Accord – which ended the long sectarian war in Northern Ireland known as “The Troubles” – when “The Quiet Storm” made its debut.
WGDR was less than a week removed from celebrating 25 years on the air when “The Quiet Storm” first filled the Central Vermont airwaves with its relaxing mix of Smooth Jazz and Cool R&B on June 6, 1998. The show has been a staple on WGDR’s music schedule ever since, occupying its current Thursday midday time slot since September 2003. It remains one of the station’s most popular music programs — and, since 2011, also enjoys a nationwide audience via the Fishbowl Radio Network..

Moccasin Tracks explores the efforts, thoughts and wisdom of the Indigenous Peoples of Vermont- and beyond- and also grassroots activism, including non-violent civil-resistance. The show questions cooperation or resistance to the broken “white-priviledged” systems in place today that are desecrating all that is precious to Life-Affirming Human Beings that are living in peace and harmony with Mother Earth.
Join us during the second part of the show (3PM) for rebroadcasting of First Voices Indigenous Radio. (A production from Pacifica, a WBAI broadcast with radio producer and host, Tiokasin Ghosthorse) National Native News, a production of Native Voice One, (www.nv1.org) will also be broadcast at the beginning of the show. and the impact seen already which is so contrary to Indigenous Perspectives.
