Martin Kemple, Goddard alumnus and former faculty member, previewed his workshop on How the Local Food Movement is Transforming How We Live and Where We’re Going, to be held Monday, Aug. 20, 10:30 am – noon at Goddard College. (Free and open to the public.)
A 2008 interview with Helena Norberg-Hodge, author of Ancient Futures: Learning from Ladakh, on the film, The Economics of Happiness. The documentary film on sustainable community development and responses to the impact of globalization will be shown Saturday, Aug. 18, 7-9:00 pm, at the Community Center Media Room, Goddard College, and will be followed by a discussion. (Free and open to the public.)
Chiropractor Lisa Nash discussed her workshop on Embodying the Health Care System We Want to See to be held at Goddard on Thursday, Aug 23, 10:30 am to noon. (Free and open to the public.)

Student Grace Asagra, a nurse and health coach who, from her base in Princeton, New Jersey, conducts a weekly radio segment on holistic health in her home region of the Philippines.

Anthropologist Hillary Webb talked about her upcoming public lecture at Goddard, “Schrödinger’s Cat Is Dead, Schrödinger’s Cat Is Not Dead: Adventures in Andean Complementary Dualism.”
Nature writer John Mitchell has written a series of books about one square mile in Massachusetts, including an upcoming book simply on his garden. He reported his 25-year quest to learn about the life of the country’s first African-American nature photographer, the subject of his upcoming public lecture at Goddard, “Looking for Mr. Gilbert: The Reimagined Life of an African American.”

WGDR Director Kris Gruen guest hosted.
Suzanne Vega discussed her music, song writing as activism, and her current concert tour, which includes a performance at Goddard on July 29.
Musician and Goddard alumnus Brian Boyes described how his college education influenced his alternative approach as a high school educator, what his fans should expect from his latest compositions for large ensembles, and his vision for sharing them with Central Vermont via a winter concert at Goddard.
Goddard’s new Advancement Officer, Lauren Moye, explored ideas for partnerships in the arts for Central Vermont and beyond.

Archivist Dustin Byerly, in for Goddard College President Barbara Vacarr (who was caught in a travel delay), explained how the Presidential Award for Activism came to be and why Bread & Puppet Theater founder Peter Schumann was chosen to receive it this year.
Peter Schumann described his work with Bread and Puppet, how he sees puppetry relating to activism, and responds to Plato’s argument that poets don’t really understand the topics that they portray.

Faculty member Sharon Cronin, artist-in-residence Angel Reyes, and young Bamba performer Ronaldo Cronin discussed how dual language early childhood education strengthens young people’s minds, and how music adds richness to those programs as a universal language. They also performed some Bamba music in the studio.

Student Charlotte Hunter talked about Pocketful of Joy, a non-profit she founded which provides healthcare and educational opportunities to children in northern Tanzania. Scheduled to graduate from Goddard in September at age 63, Hunter also explained why she chose to start college at age 59.

Goddard student, alumna, and staff member Heather Labor dances in Hannah Dennison‘s production of Dear Pina, a tribute to choreographer Pina Bausch that is premiering June 25-30. Labor and Dennison described Bausch’s significance, the new work, and rehearsals.
Alumnus and former staff member Chris Riddell won a recent Extempo storytelling competition with his story, “Do You Believe?”

Faculty member Alick Brown‘s feature film debut, Kinyarwanda, won the World Cinema Audience Award in the Dramatic category at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011. He was interviewed at Sundance by Radio Goddard’s executive director Kris Gruen and on CNN.
Maxine Hong Kingston, award-winning author of The Woman Warrior, China Men, and other books, read an essay and a poem describing the same protest at the White House–in very different ways. The reading was in the summer of 2010 to help the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program celebrate five years at the Port Townsend, Washington campus.
Creative writing faculty member Ryan Boudinot gave a TEDx talk (an independently organized TED talk) on Nature, Humanity, and Technology.
Student Matt Paneitz described his work in Guatemala, turning waste into resources.
